Evelyn Mae (Sargent) Derby, age 91, formerly of Spring Street in Farmington, died December 18, 2013 at Watson Fields in Dover.



Born August 3, 1922 in Sebago, Maine, the daughter of John W. and Ida Mae (Colbath) Sargent, she was a graduate of an all girls private high school in Montpelier, Vermont. She resided in Farmington, NH for most of her adult life.



In earlier years, she was head of the First National in Farmington. Prior to retirement, she was a shoeworker at local shoe factories in Farmington.



Evelyn served as the V.F.W. Auxiliary State President, the only one from Farmington. She was an active member of Church of the Redeemer, now Trinity Anglican Church in Rochester. She enjoyed gardening.



Widow of the late Richard E. Derby, who died in 2008, she is survived by her daughter Columbine S. Cleaves of Auburn, 3 grandchildren: Laura Lee Cleaves of Auburn, Richard W. Cleaves of Concord and Michael D. and wife Laura Cleaves of Penacook, 2 great grandchildren: Allyson Cleaves and Lance Corporal Zachary and wife Samantha Cleaves, her brother Winfred Sargent of Farmington, also her many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, a granddaughter Heather Leigh Cleaves and 3 brothers: Raymond, George and Freeman Sargent.



Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Trinity Anglican Church, Rochester Hill Road, Rochester, NH, with Bishop Owen Williams, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Trinity Anglican Church.
