IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugene "Gene"
Wilbur Burroughs
May 4, 1951 – February 2, 2025
Eugene "Gene" Wilbur Burroughs of Milton, N.H., passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on May 4, 1951, Gene was a lifelong resident of Milton, where he created a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.
Gene leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years, Brenda (Marcoux) Burroughs of Milton; two daughters, Kaylee and her husband Jesse of Lebanon, ME, and Jessica and her husband Matthew of Berwick, ME, along with their two sons, Jackson and Bennett "Judgey." He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Smith of Townsville, NC, who fondly remembers him as "the best brother ever." He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Marcoux; brothers in law, Raymond and Michael Marcoux; sister in law, Mary and her husband Jerry Randall; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene was predeceased by his parents, Warren "Junior" and Rosamond "Rosie" Burroughs; his brother-in-law, Daryl Smith; his father-in-law, Raymond "Bonhomme" Marcoux; and extended family members.
Gene graduated from Nute High School in 1969, where he was known for occasionally missing school on "good fishing days." He married Brenda in Milton on July 28, 1990, and they built a beautiful life full of memories and joy over their many years together. Many of those memories were made at their camp in Dummer, NH, where Gene loved to fly fish, snowmobile, four-wheel, and visit with friends and family.
Gene's passion for living life to the fullest was evident in everything he did—he worked hard, played harder, and embraced every moment. Gene had a love for toys, both big and small. Whether you saw him riding up the road in his backhoe on his way to spread a load of dirt, out riding around with friends like Steve Hagan and a 500-pound pumpkin on the roof of his Subaru or waved to him as he rode by on his Honda Ruckus, Gene was always on a mission – even if he was the only one who knew what it was.
In his final years, Gene cherished his role as a devoted Papapa to his grandsons, Jackson and Judgey. Together, they explored nature, went fishing, and enjoyed rides on anything with wheels and a motor. Gene's love for his grandsons was immeasurable, and they were a constant source of joy for him. Gene and Brenda also spent many summers at their seasonal campsite in Wells, ME, enjoying the beach and making new memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family is planning the first annual "Gone Fishin'" fishing derby this spring in Gene's honor. This event will celebrate his love for fishing, and details will be shared soon. Consider donating when the time comes to support this meaningful tribute.
