Alton, New Hampshire:

Elmer Joseph Keniston, age 81, of Frank C. Gilman Highway in Alton, died peacefully at home on February 1, 2015.

Born in Somersworth, the son of Elmer Joseph Keniston and Lois (Kelley), he grew up on New Durham Ridge and resided in Alton for over 50 years.

A Veteran of the United States Air Force, he served from 1955-1959.

Joe had worked at Union Telephone and New Hampshire Electric Cooperative.

He was a former member of the New Durham Police Department and the Alton Police Department, a lifetime member of the Alton Police Association.

A Mason for 36 years with Winnipesaukee Lodge in Alton, a member of Scottish Rites and a Shriner with Bektash Temple.

Joe was a proud member of the N.R.A., an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survived by his wife of 48 years: Barbara J. (Palmer) Keniston, 2 sons: Dan Keniston and Scott Keniston, many grandchildren, including: Leon Keniston, Kelley Keniston, Joseph Miller Keniston, Samuel Miller Keniston and Jeanette Keniston. Predeceased by his son: Elmer Joseph Keniston.
