Obituary
Elaine G. Gates, age 92, former longtime resident of Farmington, died March 23, 2011 at Riverside Rest Home in Dover.
Born January 5, 1919 in Rochester, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (LaPlante) Couture, she was raised there and was a graduate of Rochester High School. She resided in Farmington since 1956, having come from Dover and Rochester.
Prior to retirement, she was employed at the former Clarostat in Dover for 35 years.
Widow of the late Everett I. Gates, who died in 1976, she is survived by her son Charles "Fred" Gates of Farmington, two daughters: JoAnn and husband Jay Travis of Connecticut and Betty Varney of Farmington, 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren, also several Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter in law Patricia Gates, her son in law Harold "Sonny" Varney, a brother Joseph Couture, also 3 sisters: Virginia Henderson, Ruth Schell and Madeline Hoyt.
A brief memorial will be held following her son-in-law Harold Varney's memorial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 26th at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington.
