Sanbornville, NH
Heaven received another angel today October 6, 2016, Dorothy May "Dottie" Souza traveled to the life above to join her mother in the arms of the lord. She was born April 17, 1959, the 10th sibling of 11 to Gurdon Hewlitt and Susie Bazinet. She was raised in Norwich CT, where she graduated from Norwich Free Academy. She attended Norwich Community College until she met her husband Jim Souza who was in the Navy. They settled in Sanbornville, NH where they raised their family.
Dottie was first and foremost a homemaker raising three beautiful daughters. Later she worked at Ames Department store in Ossipee, NH; Market Basket in Rochester, NH; US Postal Service in Wakefield, NH; and finally the National Passport Center in Portsmouth, NH.
Dot was very supportive of our children and became a coach, life mentor and counselor to many other young ladies in Sanbornville. Most notably the Brown girls Nadeane, Erin, and Mara her extended family. She supported the youth in the community as a basketball coach, 4H leader, manager of the snack shack for the softball league and busing kids around in the family van to various events.
Her interest and gifts were varied; she probably crocheted a baby blanket for every newborn in her family group, her last being for her newest grandchild Tanner and a special camo baby blanket for her close friend Lauren. She also enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, canning fruits and veggies, fishing and camping. But for Dottie family was first. Her love and guidance was unconditional, the time she spent creating memories with them was her greatest achievement.
She is survived by her husband Jim Souza of 39 years, daughter Elaine Souza of Rochester, NH, daughter Kathy Stevens husband Rodney of Worcester, MA, daughter Mary Souza of Greenland, NH; her very special pet Kelly, grandchildren Tyler, Makayla, Jayden, Ethan, Deacon and Tanner. Her brother Larry wife Cookie, Sisters Millie, Bev, Susie husband Roger, Renee husband Stan, Del, and Diane husband Steve. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Butch, sisters Marion and Francis.
Her family would like to give a special thanks to her good friends for their love and support during her illness, Lorraine Finelli, Jan Brown, Linda Young, Linda Gori, Linda Cote, and Candy Reiss. The family would like to recognize the outstanding care Dot received at the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth Douglas Hospital especially Dr. Henry Sonneborn and FNP Annie-Marie Hardman. Their care and kindness was greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Amy's Treat. Donations can be made online at amystreat.org. Amy's treat is dedicated to providing solutions to the day-to-day difficulties of living with cancer and offers unexpected "treats" to renew the spirit.
