Dorcas Louise (Marsh) Knight, 94, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2014 in accordance with her wishes. She was born at home in Malden, MA on April 14, 1920, and was the daughter of J. Frank and Nellie Winch (Fales) Marsh of Malden, MA. She married Cecil Everett Knight November 12, 1938 and settled in Sanbornville, NH where she lived all her adult life. They were married 4 months shy of 50 years. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia June Nelson and the late Rufus L. Nelson, and daughter Mary Elizabeth Valliere and husband George. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Laura Alexander and husband Jim, Karin Nelson, Colin Nelson and wife Melissa, Elizabeth LaBelle and husband Steve, Michael Valliere and wife Lisa, Suzette Wight and husband David, Joseph Valliere and wife Melissa, and Kateri Valliere and husband Christopher. She also leaves 17 great-grandchildren: Justin and his wife Megan, Brett, Lawrence, Jacqueline, Hunter, Sarah, Micah, Hannah, Noah, Andrew, Nathanael, Rebekah, Nicholas, Christopher, Danielle, Joseph and Abigail. She leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, too. She was predeceased by her brother J. Frank Marsh, Jr. and sister Mrs. Leo (Phyllis) Soucy, and is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret (Peg) Marsh.
She was an accomplished knitter and embroiderer, and her grandchildren would say she made the best cookies in the world. She had a passion for geneology, was well-read, and enjoyed doing puzzles of all kinds in her spare time. She especially enjoyed traveling to Nova Scotia every fall for many years to visit extended family.
A member of the Wakefield Congregational Church since 1941, she attended every Sunday while she was able, and headed up the Sunday School in addition to being a Parish Helper for many years. As the primary care-giver for several family members when they were no longer able to care for themselves, she demonstrated compassion and made it possible for them to die on their own terms. Her family reciprocated that service for her.
Her friends and family will remember her for her sharp memory for details, her thoughtfulness, and her unconditional love.
There will be public calling hours on Wednesday August 6th from 5-7 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville, NH and private funeral services at a later date. To express condolences, please visit: www.peasleefuneralhome.com
