Wakefield, NH – Donna M. Vanderhoof, 90, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022, in Wolfeboro, NH.  Donna was born on September 12, 1931, in Melrose Massachusetts and was the daughter of Osman C. and Louise (Rendall) Chaffee. Donna graduated from Concord High School in Concord, MA in 1949, attended Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont and received her nursing degree from Children's Hospital of Boston, MA. Donna married Parker Vanderhoof in 1954 and built their family home in Acton, MA. Donna worked for over 30 years in nursing at Emerson Hospital, Walden Nursing Home, and Middlesex School in Concord MA. After retiring from nursing, she worked as the bookkeeper for Vanderhoof Hardware, in Concord, MA working alongside Parker for many years.

After they retired in 1995, they moved to Wakefield, NH refurbishing their home in Wakefield Village while spending their summer months on the shores of Great East Lake.

In their early retirement years, they enjoyed traveling in their RV throughout the country. Other trips included an Alaskan cruise, trips to the Caribbean, Europe, and Hawaii.

Donna was a member of the Wakefield Congregational Church and a Treasurer for the Parish Helpers.  She volunteered at the Treasure Shop and attended Prayer Shawl Ministry where she knitted shawls for those in need.  She also loved gardening, sewing, reading, and listening to her audio books, playing Scrabble and cribbage with family and friends. Always with a pen in hand, she was a wiz on crosswords and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Donna is survived by her four children. Robert and his wife Linda of Acton MA, Scott and his wife Jane of Acton MA, Sharon and her husband Russell of East Wakefield NH, Parker Jr. (Jay) and his wife Janice of Union NH., nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband Parker of 62 ½ years of marriage, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life will begin on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 11 am at First Congregational Church of Wakefield, 2718 Wakefield Road, Wakefield, NH 03872. Interment will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord MA on a later date.
