Denzil F. Thayer, 83, of 11 Paulson Road died June 21, 2012. Dan was born October 11, 1928 in Andover, Massachussetts, the son of Lawrence Senter and Eunice (Sellers) Senter. Dan was adopted when he was 13 by Fred I. Thayer in 1941. He lived most of his life in Farmington, where he attended school and was a graduate of Farmington High School, Class of 1948.
Dan joined the US Navy in August of 1948 and went through boot camp at Great Lakes Navel Training Center. He graduated from Machinist Mate School in January of 1949 and was assigned to the USS Foss DE 59 in Key West, Florida. Dan served on the Foss during the Korean War as a second class MM Petty Officer. He was honorably discharged in August of 1952. He was employed by Gray's Petroleum for a short time.
Dan was a member of the Farmington Fish and Game Club. He served as Vice President with President Everett Emerson. Dan was also a member of American Legion Post #72 in Alton. Dan enjoyed playing golf with his friends at the Farmington Country Club, where he was a share holder.
Dan married Frances E. Hutchins of Cornish, Maine in August of 1953.
Dan worked in shoe factories as a side laster in Farmington, Rochester, Exeter, and Epping. For a short time he worked at Van Kuran's Machine Shop in New Durham. In his mid-forties Dan started Thayer's Window Washing Service, retiring after 25 years.
In his later years Dan served a small Christian Biblical Church of God, House Church in Penacook, New Hampshire.
He was predeceased by his wife Frances whom he missed very much. He leaves a daughter Debra Walker and husband David, granddaughters Ashley Moffitt and husband Brian, and Heather Skanse and her husband Eric, and great-grandsons Mark and August all who live in Farmington on Paulson Road. Dan also leaves behind sister-in-law Carol McGarigle and husband Jay of Maine, a half-brother Richard Senter, cousins Jim and Bill Sellers, Connie Vail, Donnie Littlefield, and many other cousins.
Calling hours are Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH. A private graveside service will be held with military honors by the United States Navy at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington.
