Obituary

Dennis Berry, 72 of New Durham, NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 8, 2022. Born in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Dennis was the son of the late Elmer & Ellen Bowden Berry. He was a sibling to Dorothy, Carl, Robert, Paul, Peter, Anita, Joseph, Loni, Maryann, and Arthur. He was a nephew to his very special Uncle Willis Berry.

Dennis leaves behind his loving wife, Renee Berry, of 54 years, daughter Jeanette and husband Jeff Drapeau, daughter Marcy and husband Kevin Perry, daughter Deborah and husband Scott Simpson, grandchildren Brittany & Travis Drapeau, Samantha, Dennis & Jillian Simpson & Bridger Perry.

Dennis was raised with a large extended family at his family farm. He showed to be an ambitious provider, valuing family above self. He had the perseverance, willingness and driven desire to succeed on his own from a young boy. This was encouraged and taught from mentors growing up. He married Renee and created their own family with three daughters. Any and all were welcome to their home for guidance, help, shelter or to visit. He was very outgoing and giving, which created an extended family and friends throughout his life. He traveled and roamed many states, stopping at coffee shops and farms, meeting new people, never a stranger.

He was a man of his word, confirmed with a handshake; he was never above the law but would take authority himself in a dishonest situation and react with an appropriate consequence. He had the ability to capture the attention of anyone in his presence through his quick-witty stories and real life events; they would be told with unfiltered opinions and no political correctness. This created individual emotions expressed through laughter, tears and jaw dropping AWW! He did this while never resisting his temptations for a smoke and a drink.

He was self taught, and used this knowledge to strive through daily success and failure. His knowledge led him through careers that touched on farming, hay fields, draft horses, logging, welding, trucking, custom mulch, quarry, fishing with his grandkids and doodle art. He was always eager to learn and share his knowledge. He would find kids off the street to give them employment opportunities and guide them. He wanted them to succeed at a skill.

For the past years he has suffered many physical ailments. These tested his pride and independence. He did not let these bring him down. He was educated to self heal. He learned if he grabbed the electric fence it could get his heart going, whiskey was the key to thinning his blood, forklifts (with someone lifting him) could get him in his equipment when legs didn't work, ropes from the ceiling could assist in sitting up, pencil sketches to reflect favorite memories could keep his mind and hands busy. He even tried to make dog collars - all while immobile! He never surrendered to his deepest suffering, embracing life one day at a time. As each day through life has troubles of its own, so he would release it and let it go.

As of recently he did depend on family and friends to help get through the daily challenges, with the driven mind he should still be working. Each task accomplished brought him relief and joy. Thank you from our hearts to all who had the kindness and willingness to share time with Dennis. These will be lasting memories.

Our family encourages anyone who knows Dennis to empower the good he shared. Connect with your community, explore opportunities, and fulfill tasks that may seem impossible. Reach out and communicate with others. Try not to be a stranger in this lost world of technology, intimidation and judgment. Be a problem solver, and share the knowledge. Find the goodness in daily life and celebrate the rewards earned with the joy it brings. This would be a reflection of what Dennis wanted.
