Dean Stimpson, age 85, of Main Street in New Durham, died November 11, 2013 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
Born January 3, 1928 in Abington, MA, the son of Merrill and Myra (Sampson) Stimpson, he served with the United States Army Air Corps from 1945-1946.
Dean was a full-time firefighter with the Abington, Massachusetts Fire Department from 1955 to 1969, when he retired and moved to New Hampshire with his first wife Norma to become part owners in the Foxy Johnnie B. Restaurant in New Durham. Norma passed away in October of 1973. Dean was married to Elaine Chagnon on January 7, 1977. He sold his interest in the Foxy in 1982, but continued to work there as a bartender until January 2002.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Farmington Country Club for many years, winning many trophies, also a member of American Legion Post #72 in Alton, NH.
Dean served the Town of New Durham as Selectman, Moderator, Budget Committee and as Captain on the New Durham Fire Department.
He was a loving husband, who cherished his family above all else and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Predeceased by his wife Norma in 1973 and wife Elaine in 2004, he is survived by their 12 children: Denise & JC Novak of Springvale, Maine, Glenn and Sharon Chagnon of Alton, Donna Chagnon of Allenstown, Diane MacDonald of Alton, Darlene and Dan Wheeler of Merrimack, Dale Chagnon of Alton, Debbie Chagnon of Center Barnstead, Janine and Patrick Young of Farmington, Dennis and Annette Chagnon of Alton, Richard and Linda Chagnon of Alton, Alan and Fran Stimpson of Barnstead, Gary Stimpson of Milton, 27 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, also a niece: Gerry Bennett Pratt and 3 nephews: Dave Pratt, Bill Pratt and Dick Stimpson.
Calling hours are Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH with a funeral service on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow with military honors at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton.
