David A. McVicar ( a/k/a Big Kahuna, Sonny)
David was born in Vesta, PA on March 30, 1937, to Mavis Rhodaback and Dave McVicar and passed away peacefully at his home in Milton on June 8, 2012.
David retired from the United States Air Force in 1976, stationed at the Pease AFB after 20 years of dedicated military service. Since that time he enjoyed several careers of which include construction of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, construction of the Merrimack River, Amoskeag, Fish Ladder in 1989, and Commercial Tuna Fishing and Lobstering in Phippsburg, ME.
David proudly served his country from an early age. He loved socializing, talking politics, his friends and remaining family members. Almost every day of the week he could be found at the Citgo (Lakeside Market) Station having coffee and shooting the bull with his buddies in Milton. David kept busy even into his retirement and hated being idle. He was one of those rare people that always liked to be on the go and would seldom turn down an invitation, even if it were just to go grocery shopping. He had a very dry sense of humor and loved to laugh. We considered him a "coffee connoisseur" as he was always on the lookout for the "perfect cup of coffee". David would strike up a conversation with anyone at any time and often renewed acquaintances in mysterious (and sometimes faraway) places. He enjoyed fishing with his many wonderful friends, locally and in Maine. He painstakingly took care of his wife until she passed away in 2007. He loved his girls and they loved him back.
David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy Marion McVicar and survived by his daughters Kim, Dayton of Northwood and Karen Wheeler of Milton. Kim and Karen's husbands, Stephen Dayton and Mark Wheeler, share in the family's sadness at this time along with Grandchildren, Kaley Jackman of Rochester, Crystal and Rick Schlessinger of Northwood and Great Grandson, Ryan Jackman, also of Rochester.
