David L. Johnson, age 69, of Milton, NH, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025 at his home with his wife and son by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 5, 1956 in Lancaster, NH to Leonard (Bill) and Aleta O. Johnson.
David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Goodwin Johnson, his children Amos Johnson (Robert) of Rochester, NH, Asa Johnson (Courtney) of Newfields, NH, and Aleta Schmidt (Matthew) of Orrington, ME, and sisters Laurie (David) Leonard of Whitefield, NH and Doreen Smith of Lancaster, NH. Grandchildren Annabelle, Abigail, Jackson, Jacoby, Jea'Launi as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is a graduate of Groveton, NH High School, and Plymouth State College.
David began his teaching career in 1978 in Newmarket, NH. A year later, he accepted the position of sixth-grade teacher with the Milton school district.
During his 34 year tenure, he served as an interim principal for Milton Elementary School, assistant principal of Nute Middle School, and taught math and science to Grades 6, 7, and 8, He also coached multiple levels of volleyball, basketball and baseball.
David's contributions to the school district include initiating the middle school's involvement in "Nature's Classroom," coordinating the ski program and serving as photographer for the yearbook.
He also assisted with the "Odyssey of the Mind" program and volunteered hundreds of hours on projects, from helping to sod the field used for soccer and baseball to chaperoning dances, field trips and officiating youth sports. A prominent community volunteer, he served as a Cub Scout master and town beach commissioner, and has also received recognition for saving a man's life.
Along with his teaching career, he has worked for the State of N.H. Marine Patrol and served as a Milton, NH Marine Patrol Officer. He was also employed as a police officer for the towns Wakefield and Milton. During retirement he was employed in Somersworth, NH at the State Liquor Store, and as a security officer for Allied Universal Security.
David was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed camping, shooting, and spending quality time with his family. He loved his children, grandchildren and family tremendously.
A celebration of David's life will be held on April 19, 2025, from 12pm- 2pm at the Governor's Inn, 78 Wakefield St, Rochester, NH 03867
Private burial will take place at a later date.
