Carroll Joseph "Snooky" Shea
August 5, 1948-October 11, 2025
Carroll J. Shea, affectionately known by all as Snooky, passed away on October 11th, 2025 after an 8 month hospitalization fighting numerous illnesses.
He was born in Rochester, NH to Carroll M. and Janet E. (Bailey) Shea on August 5th, 1948. Snooky graduated from Nute High School, class of 1966 and furthered his education at the New England Aeronautical Institute and New Hampshire College, earning a business degree. While in school he pursued his private pilot's license and was a proud member of the NH Army National Guard. Following college, he started his business, C.J. Shea Floor Coverings and following his father's death in 1991, he continued the family hardwood floor sanding and refinishing business. Anyone who knew him knew he took tremendous pride in his work and loved what he did as evidenced by his unwillingness to retire.
In 1965 he met his high school sweetheart, Susan Burns of Milton Mills and they married in 1974. In 1980 they built their home on Maple Street, the same street that he grew up on and there, they raised their two children Michael and Kelly.
Snooky had many interests and loved to stay active. His love of the water began early, boating and fishing with his parents and earning his scuba diving certification. He enjoyed skiing both on the water and in the mountains. He loved fishing and spent many weekends on the ocean with each of his kids and son-in-law, Steve. He was deeply involved in his kids' events, clubs and teams, often as a chaperone or coach. Snooky was the Advancement Leader of Troop 198 in Wakefield and saw his son Michael all the way through to his Eagle Scout rank. He also gave back to causes he cared about, including the Wakefield Heritage Commission and the Union Village Community Association. He loved to work and to tinker, never afraid to get his hands dirty, he was happiest in his garden or fine-tuning his 1922 Model T Ford. Known as a problem-solver, he was always ready to lend a hand or offer a smart idea.
He leaves Susan, his wife of 51 years, his son Michael Shea and wife Kristyn of Wakefield, NH, his daughter Kelly Lynch and her husband Stephen of East Wakefield, NH, his beloved grandson Aaron Michael Shea, his sister Sally Burr and her husband Gary of Union, NH, sister-in-law Laurie Burns of North Carolina, nieces Alissa and Shayla Burr and Angelique Nelsen, nephews Mark and Aaron Smith, many close Pratt, Anderson and Stalnaker cousins and friends who were like siblings to him.
He is predeceased by his parents Carroll M. "Caddie" and Janet E. (Bailey) Shea and in-laws Robert and Sarah Burns.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wakefield Heritage Commission in Snooky's name at 2 High Street, Sanbornville, NH or to the animal shelter that is nearest to your heart.
