Beverly Jean Hastings, 82, of Strafford, NH, entered her heavenly home on July 5, 2026,
surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Fitchburg, MA, to Geneva and Norman McPherson, Beverly graduated high school and
began her career at the Hubbard Shoe Shop as a shadow antiquer. It was there that she met the
love of her life and future husband, John. Beverly later shared her leadership and bright
personality as the shoe department manager for KMart in both Rochester and Portsmouth,
before eventually retiring from TJ Maxx.
As a devoted pastor’s wife, Beverly’s unwavering faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life.
She served her community with a joyful heart as a Sunday School teacher, a church deaconess, a
volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and the coordinator of the church’s popular turkey suppers.
Beverly’s family was her absolute pride and joy. She loved spending time with her husband at
Camp Sentinel, tending to her garden, painting, and creating intricate "diamond dots" artwork. If
you were lucky enough to know her, you likely have one of her beautiful creations displayed in
your home. She was also famous for baking her signature ice cream cupcakes for her children,
their classmates, and later, her daughter’s students. She and John cherished their quiet
moments together, eating ice cream side-by-side in their antique car—a hobby that also saw
Beverly happily selling raffle tickets at local antique car shows.
Beverly is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years (together for 63), Pastor John Hastings;
her two daughters, Laura McDormand and her husband Scott of Sanbornville, NH, and Ondrea
Mendros and her spouse Peter of Newington, NH. She has 13 siblings:
Kenneth, Russell, Roger, Norman, Gardner, and Forrest McPherson, Colin Hebert, June Culver,
Norma Kaufman, Viola Pritchard, Gloria McPherson, Faith-Ann Pellon, and Roseanna Broeckel.
She was the incredibly proud grandmother of 6, great-grandmother of 8, and leaves behind one
beloved granddog.
A service celebrating Beverly's life and faith will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Crown
Point Baptist Church in Strafford, NH. Viewing hours will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with
the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by the burial. Family and
friends are warmly invited to gather downstairs afterward for refreshments and a time to share memories.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Beverly's name to the Crown Point Baptist Church.
