Betty Jane Demers, age 93, of Farmington, New Hampshire, passed away February 18, 2017 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, surrounded by her family.
Born December 22, 1923 in Watertown New York, she was the middle daughter of Margaret Abigail (Perry) Beattie and Clarence Edwin Beattie. As a young woman, Betty lived in New York City and Chicago working as a telephone operator and photographer before settling in the Finger Lakes of New York State where she raised a family.
In 1981 she married art professor, Edmund R. Demers in Waterloo, New York. They moved to Farmington, New Hampshire where they enjoyed retirement and being close to grandchildren. Betty's highly creative spirit found expression in gardening, cooking, sewing and oil painting. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Betty was devoted to her family, progressive causes and worshiping God.
She is survived by her husband, Edmund Demers, four daughters: Margaret Trout, Cathy Rosen, Amy Trout, Suzanne Trout; seven grandchildren Jessica Trout-Haney, Stephanie Trout-Haney, Katrina Trout-Haney, Justin Rosen, August Guglielmo, Emma Gormley, Sloan Gormley, and a sister, Florence Stockdale.
Betty will be remembered in a private service. Interment will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to Planned Parenthood.
