Barney Williams (1944-2014) possessed a diligence both honored and admired by every life around him. He was never one to rest—from shoveling foots of snow from rooftops to driving hours to pick up his grandkids, he was the person willing to do anything and everything for his friends and family. Barney led a life of velocity; each summer, you'd find him cruising down the highway on his motorcycle; each autumn, you'd find him hunting in the Northern New England woods (a pastime that he enjoyed solely weeks before his passing). Longtime resident of Effingham, formerly Ossipee, Barney embodied the lively spirit of the great north woods—always working on something new and striving through adversity, just as the mountains do amidst the longest winters.
Barney is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Nancy, his children: Sheri and husband Jack, Tim, Cathie and husband Wayne, Lynn, Joseph, and Jessica and husband Josh, his sister Beverly and husband Wayne, his brother Richard, his 17 grandchildren, and his four great-grandchildren. Just prior to midnight on Thursday December 4th, 2014 Barney took his final breath and released himself from the pain in which he was suffering. Despite the all-consuming toll that the cancer ravaged upon his body, Barney managed it with utter determination, subtle optimism, and without a word of complaint—as he managed most every situation throughout his lifetime.
It was subsequent to Nancy's reassurance that she would be taken care of that Barney granted himself the tranquility that he deserved. May his tremendous strength and fierce tenderness be incorporated into each life that he touched upon his passing. May we all hold a piece of him within our hearts, as he rests in peace.
Services will be held at Peaslee Funeral Home in Wakefield, NH on Tuesday December 9th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside burial will take place in the spring.
