IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann Catherine
Geiger Mckinna
March 1, 1926 – October 20, 2025
After a brief illness, Ann Catherine Geiger McKinna, 99, of Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire, died of natural causes at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia on October 20, 2025. Ann was a resident of St. Francis Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Laconia at the time of her death but is better known as a longtime resident of Gilmanton Iron Works.
Born on March 1,1926, in Queens, New York, Ann was the only child of Hans and Katherina Geiger.
Ann lived in Queens in her early life and as a young girl she often spent summer vacations in New Hampshire with her parents. After graduating from nursing school and her marriage to David Douglas McKinna in October 1950, she lived in Norfolk, VA, while David served in the Navy. They moved to Gilmanton Iron Works in 1953 and started their family. Ann remained in GIW for many years, raising her children, working as a substitute mail carrier and then for the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association. Her husband, David, died in 1983. Ann continued working at the CRVNA until her retirement in 1999.
But retirement did not slow her down.
Ann was an avid knitter and a skilled and prolific needlepoint enthusiast. Many of her friends and relatives are proud recipients of baby blankets, hats and her meticulous, beautiful needlepoint pieces.
Ann was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and had always been involved in the former St. Joan of Arc Church in Alton. After St. Joan of Arc burned down, Ann served on the building committee for the new St. Katharine Drexel in Alton, which was dedicated in 2005. Ann immersed herself in her parish, serving on the Finance Committee for many years. She held multiple terms on the Parish Pastoral Council. She was a member of the book group, the Ladies group, and the Prayer Shawl ministry, knitting many shawls for those who were sick or homebound as well as shawls given to families whose loved ones had passed. Ann was a Lector at Mass for many years, including the day of the dedication of the church. Ann gladly served as an "Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist," bringing the Eucharist to those who are homebound. In addition, she was a member of the Altar Society, taking care of the linens and keeping the altar area spotless. Her support of so many activities and events in the church made her a vital member of the parish.
Ann's love for her church community, and the community's love for her, led to a parish-wide "car parade" in the church parking lot when she turned 95 during Covid restrictions. There was another outpouring from parishioners last year when she reached her 99th birthday and received 99 + cards from all those who wanted to wish her well. Ann was loved and respected, and she will truly be missed.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, Dave, in 1983. She is survived by her son Kenneth McKinna, his wife Faye; her son Robert McKinna, his wife Trudy; her daughter Catherine McKinna, and grandchildren Staci, Kevin, Jacob, Josh, and Trevor. Extended family members include Christina and Mark Zinkand, and Erich and Sabrina Hufschmid. She leaves behind her German family members Hanna and Leo Scherer and Mocha Ziegler, and their families. Ann was also predeceased by Joachim Ziegler and her beloved friend Maria Hufschmid.
