New Durham and
Hampton, NH
Alice C. Blackden died peacefully on March 30, 2016 at Epsom Health Care Center. She was the beloved widow of Donald, loving mother of Donald H. Blackden, Patricia A. Keith and Elaine A. Titus, and proud grandmother of Miranda, Sean, Travis, Jesse, Katie, Eliza, Taylor and great grandchildren, Ian, Kenna and most recently Elliot. She spent the last several years in New Durham, New Hampshire, having moved there from Hampton, NH.
Alice was 87 years old and even with the short time spent in New Durham, left memories with many in our small town. Alice thoroughly enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse, having graduated with honors from McLean Hospital School of Nursing, in Belmont, MA. She was well respected in her field of geriatric nursing. She often recalled her graduation, held at the Wentworth by the Sea during its heyday. Alice met Don when he was her patient in Rhode Island. They married, lived and raised their children in seacoast New Hampshire, often traveling back to Rhode Island to be with their extended families. She was born in Narragansett, to Alice and Henry Chappell on June 14, 1927.
Alice will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as her brother William Chappell and sister Mary Gallup and her family. The family requests no flowers; remembering her instead by contributions to your favorite charity in her honor. Our family's heartfelt appreciation goes out to all her caregivers at Epsom Heath Care and the many friends who supported her last years with us with kind words and remembrances. A private family gathering celebrating her life will be held in early May.
